The web server EU1 is being rebooted after some changes that have been made. It should be back on within minutes.
Sorry about the issues still, some people might not be able to view our websites or billing area. This is because the DNS settings keep setting back to the temporary site we used when there was downtime at Vaserv.
I’m working to fix this, I’ve deleted and re-created all DNS zones so with a bit of luck that should do the trick…
Server S3 has been reinstalled after the issue with the server was apparently unfixable. The chances are that anyone that signed up on that server has since lost interest or given up, but please feel free to sign up again for a new server.
Customers on usa2-vn may notice some issues with slowness. The server is being rebooted shortly.
EDIT: The other issue has gone away.
The heavy hand of regulation has fallen upon anyone with a 0871 number.
Our current 0871 (10p a minute) telephone number is now legally classed as a ‘premium rate’ number so rather than registering as a ‘premium rate service provider’ (which used to be for companies that charge high rates and make money from their callers) I have decided to change the number to non-regulated one.
The new sales/support number is 0844 330 4678 (or 0844 330 HOST).
I would like to personally thank our supreme leaders for lumping small businesses with the additional costs and inconvenience of changing telephone numbers during this difficult economic time.
We will be performing some scheduled data centre maintenance, which creates an “at risk” period for your service. This maintenance is not service affecting and there should be no noticeable impact. However, during the maintenance period your service is at an increased risk.
Date: 22/06/09
Time: 08:00 for 7 hours
The maintenance is related to the UPS system in Spectrum House, and during the maintenance period the UPS will be taken off-line and electrical testing completed. This is a standard maintenance item and there should be no cause for concern. During the maintenance period the critical load will be transferred seamlessly from the UPS to the raw mains, and then when the maintenance is complete it will be transferred back seamlessly.
We have confirmed with Southern Electric that they have no maintenance scheduled during this period.
If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I’ve added a load of new categories to this blog so that people can subscribe to notifications for the server(s) that they are on.
To subscribe, simply enter your email into the Newsletter box, you will get an email with a link where you can subscribe to specific categories.
If you are unsure about which server you are on then please open a support ticket.
People using AutoDJ might not be able to find out which server they are on, but I’ll be adding it to the control panel this week so that everything is completely transparent.
You can, of course, subscribe to every notification if you like by subscribing to General, but this might result in emails that don’t relate to your specific service.
PS, I just noticed that empty categories aren’t listed, so just sign up for the category that best suits you and you can update your subscription at a later date.
PPS, I found the code to fix this, all categories are now displayed
The nameserver that we lost has been set back up on a new IP.
We now have the full 1GB of RAM so the control panel should be back to normal.
And on a different subject, the RAM upgrade on uk1-vn seems to have done the trick.
A small number of customers have reported extreme slowness on the AutoDJ control panel. I’ve noticed that after the Vaserv incident, they have put all of their customers on to reduced RAM plans, so we only have 512MB instead of 1024MB – this could be the cause of the issue.
It seems odd that other control panel areas are not affected, but this could be the reason so please be patient. If you get errors then keep trying, it will work eventually.
Mem: 524288k total, 347640k used, 176648k free, 0k buffers
I’m going to reboot uk1-vn due to problems causing the control panel to stop. This server has been a bit awkward lately and strangely, it’s one of the most powerful servers on the value network.
Still, I’ll probably get a brand new server because this one has never seemed quite right..
